HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY OF THE 10TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

2 Corinthians 3:4-11, Matthew 5:17-19

THEME: THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT

When we interpret the law or the scripture to suit our preferences, we will surely end up creating a monster out of it. The best of inventions can be an instrument of oppression. Organized religious system can be a burden to people when it is too dull in understanding the working of the Holy Spirit. God is present in his church, but not in the walls or barriers we build. He is present to those who are disposed to dwell in his truth.

Jesus said in today’s gospel, “Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them.”

The wrong interpretation or application of the scripture before the coming of Christ has become a source of burden for the people. He came to teach the spirit in which those laws were made. Paul said in the first reading, “the written letters bring death, but the Spirit gives life.”

The Lord Jesus came to set us free from every entanglement and give us the freedom to follow the Lord in truth and in spirit.

May our ears be open, and may our hearts be fertile to take the dictates of the Lord, that we may always lead lives worthy of our divine calling. Amen.
