HOMILY OF THURSDAY OF THE 10TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

2 Corinthians 3:15-4:1,3-6, Matthew 5:20-26

THEME: GOD IN OUR  NEIGHBOURHOOD

God is a compassionate God even though He is Omnipotent. He is Omniscience, he knows us in and out, he is merciful. There is a proximity in his transcendence. He wants to relate with us as would a concerned neighbour. Our contact with him should bring him closer to those we meet. According to Paul in his letter to the Corinthians, “It is the same God that said, ‘Let there be light shining out of darkness’, who has shone in our minds to radiate the light of the knowledge of God’s glory, the glory on the face of Christ.”

As the Lord works daily to walk with us, he wants us to blend well with our neighbours, both in words and deeds. We must shun divisive words and refrain from destructive actions against others. Wherever we find ourselves, we must work towards establishing a community of love. The Lord said in the gospel, “So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then come back and present your offering.”

We cannot claim to be at peace with God while we are not at peace with our brothers and sisters.

May the light of God shine upon us that we may radiate his love wherever we go. Amen.
