HOMILY OF SATURDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK OF EASTER.

Acts 13:44-52, John 14:7-14

THEME: WHEN OPPORTUNITY COMES

God has offerred us our means of gaining life. Though no one can oppose his plan for humanity, He can never impose himself on any man. He needs our cooperation and consent. The message of salvation is a gift, which we are expected to accept freely. Our problem will only come from the repercussion of our refusal to embrace the way to life. Though we often suffer because of the actions of others, our outputs are largely the product of our individual choices.

In our today’s first reading the, when the Jews contradicted Paul and Barnabas, they said,

“We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, but since you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, we must turn to the pagans.”

It was a pity that they lost the blessings which the Lord has prepared for them for ages. The pagans received the apostles with joy.  Out of cheer ignorance the Jews missed what they have been waiting for. And the apostles who had no doubt about the gospel which they carry did not hesitate to leave them for those who will accept salvation.

We must not be discouraged when we are rejected on account of our values or what we stand for.

And may our lot not be taken away from us. At the manifestation of God’s promise, may we never be found wanting. Amen.
