THE DAY WHEN GOD WAS THIRSTY

26

HOMILY OF GOOD FRIDAY YEAR B

Isaiah 52:13-53:12, Heb 4:14-16;5:7-9, John 18:1-19:42

THEME: THE DAY WHEN GOD WAS THIRSTY

On the cross of Calvary, the Lord Jesus exclaimed,”  I am Thirsty”. One may wonder why a whole God should be thirsty.  However, behind this cry, its written the profile of a God who came to identify himself with the sinful and suffering humanity.

Though almighty, God is not distant from man. He feels the pain of man. Since it is our sins that he bore on the tree, he had experienced what is due to us. He carried our pain.

Jesus refused to hide his feelings. He made it known. At times, we do not show our true feelings simply because we do not want people to look down on us. If God can express his pain, why do we hide ours? God understand what we are passing through. He simply wants us to make it known.

May pride and arrogance not lead us to mask our true identity. May we not get used to fake living. As we express ourselves before the cross of the divine Saviour, may he help us to alleviate our suffering and relieve our  pain.
