KNOWING THE WAYS OF GOD

HOMILY, FRIDAY, 10TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

1Kgs 19: 99.11-16, Matthew 5: 27-32

The God who sent down fire at the word of Elijah did not speak to him in the fire. Elijah looked for him in the earthquake, but did not find him. He did not manifest himself in the strong wind. He rather chose to speak to him in a still voice.

A prophet or a child of God is expected to know God’s mode of operation at a given time or season. Or else he will talk or act on his own accord thinking that he is doing the mind of God.

To ask Elijah, “what are you doing here” is like asking, “Hope you know what brought you here.” In any case, God will always protect his name- And his next option was to take him, while Elisha takes his place.

We pray that our sentiments or people’s actions will not lead us to act amiss while discharging our duties.

PRAYER

O Lord, help me to discern your ways. Teach me the right way to carry out my duties. May my mind or nay human pressure push me to actions that can create tension instead of peace. Thy kingdom come.
