God Has A Better Plan

HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF EASTER. 9TH MAY 2025.
BY REV FR. ADOLE ACHILLEUS ILE LAMPEZ CSSp.
Texts: 1st reading : Acts 9:1-20 Psalm 116:1-2 Gospel : John 6:52-59

22

Today, we are called to reflect on the ways and workings of God and come to acknowledge his supremacy over situations of every kind.

From the readings, especially the first; from the Acts of the Apostles chapter 9:1-20, we see the story of the conversion of Saul, and a demonstration of the scriptural reference that God ways are not the ways of men, and His thoughts are not the thoughts of men (Isaiah 55:8-9)

“…When he heard that, Ananias said, ‘Lord, several people have told me about this man and all the harm he has been doing to your saints in Jerusalem. He has only come here because he holds a warrant from the chief priests to arrest everybody who invokes your name.’ The Lord replied, ‘You must go all the same, because this man is my chosen instrument to bring my name before pagans and pagan kings and before the people of Israel; I myself will show him how much he himself must suffer for my name….” (Acts 9:1-20)

In the sight of men, Saul is not worthy to be partake in the joy of the resurrection and in the communion of the faithful.

He was a personality that breeds fear and hatred in the hearts of the early Christians. Someone that no one would want to be associated with. Such a person would not easily gain the acceptance of those he once fought against.

Nevertheless, Christ has a better plan. He saw something in Saul that everyone else ignored and couldn’t see. Consequently, in their encounter, He transforms Saul positively into someone to be envied because of what he had become.

The power of the resurrection is still active and moving around to touch and transform situations and personalities from negativity to positivity.

You might have been written off like Saul and classified as unworthy for some reasons, but I want you to know that the signature of God overrules and (or) nullifies that of men. No one disapproves of what God approves. If God had thought like men, Saul wouldn’t be converted, and his story would remain that of a persecutor.

God’s ways are always not our ways, and his thoughts, not our thoughts. We must, therefore, continue to believe and trust in the transformative power of Christ’s resurrection, for He has a better plan for each of us regardless of our shortcomings.

Peace be with you 🙏🏾🙌🏾
