BEING AWAKE

145

Being awake has to do with being aware of our daily actions and their implications for our life in Christ. As we are called in today’s, we must be spiritually vigilant and be ready for God’s daily visits. The imagery of being dressed for action with lamps lit conveys a sense of anticipation and preparedness. If we are always conscious of what we do and align our lives with God’s merciful designs, we will not fear the day the Lord will come in glory.

ALWAYS WATCHFUL

Just as the servants eagerly awaited their master’s return, we, too, are called to stay spiritually awake and attentive, ever watchful for the presence of the divine in our lives. The notion of readiness extends beyond merely waiting for a future event; it speaks to our daily lives.

Being awake spiritually means living with intention and purpose, embracing the teachings of Jesus and embodying love, compassion, and service to others. When the master arrives, whether in the second or third watch, he rewards those who are vigilant.

THE MASTER’S SERVANT ROLE

The master’s role reversal, serving the vigilant servants, is a powerful reminder of the rewards of a faithful and attentive life. It points to the profound truth that humility and service are at the centre of our lives as Christians.

In a world filled with distractions, Jesus’ message encourages us to maintain our spiritual lamps lit, to be ever prepared to welcome the divine presence into our lives. By being awake, we not only discover the joy of communion with our Creator but also find the path to serving and uplifting those around us, as the master did with his devoted servants.

May our lives be lives of daily preparation for the glory of heaven. Amen.
