Be familiar with being Good Witnesses to Jesus Only

HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF SECOND WEEK OF EASTER YEAR C,
BY REV FR EKESHIRI JUDE EMEKA CSSP.
Texts:GENESIS 1:26- 2:3, MATHEW 13:54-58

Beloved, today being the 1st of May we celebrate the feast of Saint Joseph the worker. Saint Joseph is the foster father of Jesus and we are aware of the role he played in the life of Jesus. He worked hard to protect his family and to show good examples to all who are parents using his skill as a carpenter.

Too much Familiarity is something really bad. It could make someone to treat the things they are familiar with in an ordinary way, though they are of divine origin. That is why people do not respect sacred things because they are too familiar with them. The gospel tells us about how Jesus was miss-treated because His own people knew where He came from.

Do they really know where He came from? I do not think so. Jesus is the Son of God and He is God also. Jesus has been given every authority to do the will of His father and to preach the gospel of salvation. But His own people doubted Him and the great works that He was doing because they are familiar with Him. People who know us very well, would always disrespect us because they do not have faith in what we do, though we are witnessing to the good news. We who believes in Jesus, are witnesses to this good news. We ought to treat everyone well, whether we know their origin or not. Things could change for good.

Today, like saint Joseph, we are called to witness to the good news of Jesus by using whatever skills and talents that we have to be good witnesses to the good news of Jesus. We ought to be people of faith and charity towards those we meet always.

Today we think of Saint Joseph, the Worker, a man who built his life on faith. Do we have faith strong enough to teach people about our belief in Jesus? Are we really convinced about our faith? Let us use whatever skills God has given us to serve people and to give glory to God. Peace be with you.
