Understanding the nature of our call as Christians is very important as it helps us to live out the values of Christianity.
The call to Christianity demands a life of self abandonment and the exhibition of Christ’s exemplary life of love, which is culminated in total self-sacrifice on the cross. To this, Jesus says in the gospelof today that, “…A man can have no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends….”
This, the disciples did so well in Antioch and earned themselves the name “Christians.” (Acts 11:19-30)
Therefore, to be a Christian, one must be ready to do the same business that the master (Jesus) did. That is, the business of loving and laying down His life for His friends and those in need.
He continues to invite us to take up His business from where He stopped. Thus He says : “… I shall not call you servants anymore because a servant does not know his master’s business; I call you friends because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father. You did not choose me: no, I chose you; and I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last…”
The master has taught us His business by His life’s example. It is now expected of us not to disappoint the trust that the master had placed on us by teaching us, and bear fruits of love as we do the business He left behind for us.
We must be active and devoted, never to allow the business of the master to crash. And remember, it is a business of loving and spreading love wherever we find ourselves in the world.
Let us choke the world with love and annihilate hatred from every corner of our lives. This is the business that Christ wants us to invest more in. He will be proud of us if we do this right.
Peace be with you 🙏🏾
