As we are into the week of weeks, the apogee of our Christian salvation which is commemorated in Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection, the gospel reading of today presents us with different characters surrounding Jesus. Today, let us make up our mind to know where we belong.
Judas Iscariot is set to betray Jesus. He knows already what he has in mind. Yet he plays along and pretends to be ignorant of what Jesus said about him. Jesus is God who knows all things. Hence, he tells them that someone among them was going to betray him.
Peter is another character. Jesus tells him directly that he would deny him three times. Peter doesn’t understand what Jesus is saying and where he is going to. The passion will soon unfold and the words of Jesus will come to life.
Dear friends, where do we belong? Are we Judas who betray Jesus all the time? Do we betray our friends on the altar of wine and food and transient things? Let us examine our conscience as we follow Jesus.
Are we like Peter who would be very quick to assert our support for friends but during grief we leave them? Let us examine our consciences.
The Lord needs us to stay with him especially this period. To hear from him and learn from him. To also cast our burdens upon him that we may have peace. Any character we choose has its consequences.
May the Lord help us.
Peace be with you.
