HOMILY OF THE FIFTH DAY IN THE OCTAVE OF CHRISTMAS

R1:- John 2:3-11
PS:- 96:1-2a.2b-3.5b-6
Accl:- Luke 2:32
Gospel:- Luke 2:22-35

Oftentimes we see in others more of what we carry in ourselves. If out of prejudice or because of one bad experience we may have with the other, we hate him, we may create a devil of him.

Such devil cannot be cast out without doing violence to ourselves. This is because, such devil has his root more in us than the other.

Moreover, what our heart hold for the other defines who we are. John said in our today’s first reading,

“He who loves his brother abides in the light, and in it there is no cause for stumbling. But he who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and dies not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.” John 2:3-11.

Therefore, when we live in love, we see others clearly and understand some of the reason for the things that make us hate them. This enables us to love them beyond and above their bad side.

May we live in love and may the light of Christ abide in us. Amen.
