Jeremiah 7:1-11, Matthew 13:24-30

To be proficient in our kingdom race, we must guide against passivity and be constantly awake, lest the enemy of our faith sow the seed of decay into our lives. Time of sleep is a time of no action. A little slumber can open doors for a lifetime struggle.

Moreover, we need to be patient with people when they exhibit some characteristics that we detest, because we may not know how and when their struggles began. Some people can not explain how they do what they do. Hence, we must take care how we judge others because judgement belongs to God.

In the gospel of Matthew 13:24-30, Jesus presented the parable of the darnel, which was planted among the wheat, when the owner was asleep. When the owner’s servant asked if the darnel should be uprooted, he said, “ No, because when you weed out the darnel you might pull up the wheat with it. Let them both grow till the harvest; and at harvest time I shall say to the reapers: First collect the darnel and tie it in bundles to be burnt, then gather the wheat into my barn.”

At times, the line between the good and evil may be tiny. It takes caution and time to separate them. We simply need the patience and wisdom to deal with some ugly situations we encounter. Ultimately, everything that has a the beginning must surely have an end. Evil will not last forever. God has the final say.

May the Lord equip us with enough vigilance to forestall any form of corruption in our lives. Amen.
