WHEN THE TRUTH IS SUPPRESSED, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

112

HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER.

Acts 8:1-8, John 6:35-40

THEME: WHEN THE TRUTH IS SUPPRESSED

When on the lip of one man, the truth is suppressed, it gets more advocates and spread the more. If we give up speaking the truth because it is not accepted or frowned upon, it means it was never written boldly in our hearts. We must have picked it up thinking it will win us popular acceptance.

The persecution that arose against the Christians after the death of Stephen led to the wide spread of the gospel across the districts of Judea and Samaria. And God performed wonders through those who took up the preaching of the gospel undeterred by the death of Stephen.

The truth is bitter, it is eternal because it comes from above. Jesus is the truth. He offered himself to us as the bread of life from heaven.

May we be closer to him through the sacrament of his body and blood and receive with faith the power to withstand the evils of our days and possess the boldness of those destined to be saved. Amen.
