HOMILY OF SATURDAY 9TH JANUARY, 2021
SATURDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
R1:- 1 John 5:14-21
PS:- 149:1b-2.3-4.5
Accl:- Matthew 4:16
Gospel:- John 3:22-30
” No one can receive anything except what is given to him from heaven”
The above statement was John’s response when his disciples came to report to him that they saw Jesus baptising in the land of Judea. They actually thought that Jesus was hugging position with their master.
John further said, ” he must increase and I must decrease”
However, the stance of John the baptist was that of someone who has found his purpose in life. He knew that no one can take his space. We cannot but be fulfilled as long as we occupy our specific space in life.
Moreover, whoever has found his feet in life does not live with rival mentality or with “only me and I” mentality. God orders all things graciously, and he gives each one his own or her own place.
Borrowing from the humility of John, may God grant us the grace to see when he is truly at work in others. May we find fulfilment in our life ultimate choice that we may be more appreciative of other’s gifts and talents.
