THEME:

In the first reading of today. We are being reminded of one basic truth of our faith; that the spirit of God sets us free. Paul tells us that we did not receive a spirit of timidity, slavery etc but the spirit of sonship and to live by the Spirit of God is to have life. What does it mean to live by the spirit? To live by the Spirit is to get rid of pride, greed, etc., and by doing so, we become adoptive children of God and become free. However, we must note that Christian freedom is not the absence of discipline or moral limits. It is the presence of grace, the grace that empowers us to choose what is good, to love what is holy, and to serve God without fear. True freedom born of the spirit enables us to say no to what is evil and yes to the will of God, which brings ultimate happiness and everlasting peace.

Jesus has always emphasized that Sabbath is meant for the man and not man for the Sabbath. He once again affirmed this stance with his action in the Gospel of today. By healing of the woman possessed with evil spirit and physically affected for 18 years, Jesus showed his supremacy over all forms of sickness and spirits and Secondly that he has come for the redemption of mankind and there is no specific date, hour or time meant for healing.

So many of us are like the head of synagogue who hides our hypocrisy by thinking we stand on what is right. We so much worship the law and forget humanity. The wrongs are only right when is ours but wrong when it is another. We use authority stands to condemn and suffer people and not lead or protect people.

As Jesus has shown today, the most important thing in our world is us; humanity. Whatever we do that denies the protection, progression, and peace of humanity, we are drifting away from the teachings of Christ.

PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL
