Today we celebrate the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen and Mother.

According to St Amedeus of Lausanne,

” _From the height of heaven, Mary was visited by the angels; on earth she was honoured by the service of men. Gabriel with his angels stood before her; the virginal John, rejoicing that the virginal Mother was entrusted to him from the cross, ministered to her with other apostles. The angels rejoiced to see their queen, the apostles to see their mistress, and both served her with reverent, loving devotion.”_(Office of the Reading, Our Lady, Queen and Mother)

The queenship of Mary is hinged on the fulfilment of the prophetical words of the Psalmist which says,
_”At your right stands the queen, clothed with splendour in robes embroidered with pearls set in gold”_

The influence of the queen mother cannot be underestimated. That is why the church continues to call on the Blessed Mother to intercede for her and her children. Having been assumed into heaven, she continues to occupied the seat where she continuously interceding for us.

Moreover, the roles of Mary did not end the at the birth of Jesus. Her relevance in the economy of our salvation is evergreen. To recognise her is to invoke the blessings of motherhood. To honour her is to invoke the power of longevity.

O Blessed mother, cover us with your virginal mantle. Pray for us that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Amen.
