HOMILY FOR THURSDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
(1 John 4:19 -5:4, Luke 4:14-22).

The ministry of Jesus Christ is one that is filled with power and authority. Jesus teaches with authority such that people are often asking questions about who He really is.

In the gospel of today, Jesus affirms the prophecy that have been said about Him from the Book of the prophet Isaiah. It says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:14-22).

Like Jesus, we have a mandate to fulfil God’s mission of bringing the good news of Jesus to everyone, proclaiming freedom to those in Captivity. With such authority accompanying us, we can join Jesus to be victorious over the forces of evil and better reveal the face of God on earth.

Let us continue to reflect on the authority we have to join the in the mission of Jesus today and the spirit of God will lead us through. Peace be with you.
