The Church has one of its rooted teachings in “life after death.” The life we live now is limited, and the eternal life of all who have believed in Christ keeping the laws and commandments of God is eternal.
In the first reading of today, St Paul reminds and encourages the Thessalonians of this precious teaching; “make sure you do not grieve about those who have died like people who do not have hope. We believe that Jesus has died and rose again, and it will be the same for those who have died with him. “
All our struggles in life as Christians are to live a good life and have an eternal life with Christ at the end of time. Those who are alive and those have died, at the end of time provided we live our life in Christ we all will meet the Lord in heaven and stay with him forever. This reward of eternal life should be our comfort in this earthly struggle, and this will help us to persevere on doing the right thing because of the eternal reward that comes with it.
Over familiarity sometimes gives one less value, and many times, the people who do not believe in you are those who know you too well. In the Gospel of today, despite the content of the scroll that Christ read describing his powers and personnel and even the always news of his works and miracles, The people of Nazareth still regard him as ‘the son of Joseph’. Despite all these, Christ continued to tell them the truth about everything that even if “a prophet is not known in his country,” the prophet will continue to say the truth. Being angry with the truth, they wanted to do away with him, but Christ is Christ.
Many of us are in this kind of situation. Many times, this kind of assessment comes from families, colleagues, loved ones, and even friends. There is little or no regard about what we represent, be it a priest, sister, doctor, lawyer, or any vocation or profession because of over familiarity from people close. But as Christ did today, let us still stand in truth and continue to do the things we were supposed to do, especially the right ones.
PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL
