Homily of Tuesday 34th week of the ordinary time Year B. 26th November, 2024
Texts: Rev 14:14-19, Luke 21: 5-11

My dear friends in Christ, as we end the Church’s liturgical calendar, we are being reminded of the finality of every created thing. Everything about our life points to the fact that everything eventually comes to an end. Examine our working as civil servants and retiring, our going to the market and coming back home to take stock, our rising from the bed and going later to rest. All these tell us that there is finality to every created thing.

In today’s reading, we see the revelation and prophecy concerning the end of time. In the first reading it is described as the harvest time. John in his revelation sees an angel with a sickle getting ready to reap. In the gospel, Jesus foretold the destruction of the temple of Jerusalem. This destruction describes the end of an era and the beginning of another. This period is described as a period of terror because that is exactly what it will be for those that refuse to accept Christ who has come to save us from this hour or period. However, regardless of the many apocalyptic experiences narrated, those who have worked and walked in the way of the Lord and have bore fruits will be taken up to live with the Lord forever. It will be a place of bliss, joy and happiness.

Let us dear friends hold on to Christ and all he had taught us without being deceived by teachers of false doctrines while we await his coming. We pray that we may be found worthy when he comes to unite with the saints and angels in singing praises to his holy name. Amen.

The Lord be with you
