THE DIVINE ARREST, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

105

HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER.

Acts 9:1-20, John 6:52-59

THEME: THE DIVINE ARREST

QUOTE: Those who fight because of religion are simply saying that they are serving a dead God who cannot fight for himself

The arrest of Paul made a remarkable landmark in the history of the church. It seemed like a mission impossible seeing the persecutor of the church now fighting for the gospel of Christ. Left to those who felt they had the obligation to defend God, they would had killed him before this time.

If truly we are Christians, we should know that the fight against us is a fight against Jesus himself. When the Lord arrested Saul, he asked him rhetorically, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’ ‘Who are you, Lord?’ he asked, and the voice answered, ‘I am Jesus, and you are persecuting me.”

Those who fight because of religion are simply saying that they are serving a dead God who cannot fight for himself. The time we spend defending God, we can use it to show Godly values. If we truly partake in a Godly life, we should know that whatever affects us, does same to him.

In the Gospel, he proves this by saying, “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him.”

As we receive the Lord daily, may we be conscious of his presence and may his life be evident in us. Amen.
