From the readings of today, there is an urgent need for every believer to be steadfast in faith and demonstrate it in the actions we carry out.

This is important because those whom your Christian life is opposed to, are watching for your downfall.

As it is stated; “… Let us denounce him. All those who used to be my friends watched for my downfall. Perhaps he will be seduced into error. Then we will master him and take our revenge!….”

That is all that they are interested in; our errors, our mistakes, our sins. These make a believer vulnerable to different attacks. In other words, our sins give the opening required for our adversaries to come in and harm us. This is why we need to be steadfast in our faith.

In the gospel, Jesus could not understand why they wanted to stone him or arrest him. He felt He had done many good works and demanded acknowledgement, but the Jews were only interested in what they think Jesus did wrong. Thus, the Jews said to Jesus, “We are not stoning you for doing a good work, but for blasphemy: you are only a man and you claim to be God…”

Brethren, we must come to the realisation that not every person is inspired by your life as a Christian. Some of those waiting patiently for an opportunity to deal with you and rub your personality in the mud could even be those you are familiar with as we see in the firat reading; “…All those who used to be my friends watched for my downfall…”

You may do good work and get praised, but that does not mean you will be spared when you commit any error. The world is more interested in your error than the good you do. Consequently, we are called to demonstrate our faith with steadfastness.

We therefore pray for the grace to be steadfast in our faith and not give an opening for our adversaries to come in to attack us. Amen!

Peace be with you 🙏🏾
