HOMILY OF THURSDAY OF THE 11TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
2 Corinthians 11:1-11, Matthew 6:7-15
THEME: SIMPLE PRESENCE TO GOD
God is both far and near. He is far from those who are unconscious of his indwelling in us. He is close to those who can turn inward to hear him speak from the recesses of their hearts. All that he created bears his mark. We humans are at the apex of his creation, and he has given us dominion over all his creatures. Hence, we are gods.
In our prayerful conversation, we must not babble. If he is close, he can hear our heartbeat and our whispers. We can be simple. We can open our hearts to him, so that he reads the imprints. We can rid ourselves of worldly desires and distractions, lest in our crowed mind we block his voice which always speaks gently to our souls.
In the gospel, the Lord says, ‘In your prayers do not babble as the pagans do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves heard. Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
In the first reading, Paul spoke to the Corinthians, “I arranged for you to marry Christ so that I might give you away as a chaste virgin to this one husband. But the serpent, with his cunning, seduced Eve, and I am afraid that in the same way your ideas may get corrupted and turned away from simple devotion to Christ.”
Our most profound prayer is found in the practical union with God, who is always with us. May our hearts beat in harmony with His divine guidance, and may our paths be illuminated by His divine wisdom. Amen.
