Proverbs 3:27-34, Luke 8:16-18
Padre Pio, born Francesco Forgione (1887-1968), was an Italian friar, priest, and mystic known for his piety, humility, and miracles. He bore the stigmata—wounds resembling those of Christ—most of his life. He spent hours daily hearing confessions and was said to have the gift of bilocation and healing. Padre Pio founded the “Home for the Relief of Suffering,” a hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo, providing healing to many, and was canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II in 2002.
THEME: CHANNEL OF GOD’S HEALING TOUCH
People may know us by name, but we are defined by what we do. Our words gain power from our actions, as actions speak louder than words. As the Lord said, “By their fruits, you will know them.” We cannot hide our true nature; though we may pretend for a while, our real character eventually will reveal itself.
The Lord Jesus in Luke 8:16-18, “No one lights a lamp to cover it with a bowl or to put it under a bed. No, he puts it on a lampstand so that people may see the light when they come in. For nothing is hidden but it will be made clear, nothing secret but it will be known and brought to light.”
In our daily interactions, we are called to shine as good examples. Nothing remains hidden, so we must be mindful of how we live and conduct ourselves each day. Padre Pio was an example of light shining in the darkness. His relationship with God played out in his ministry and his legacy of love continues to inspire many people in the world, even after many years of departure from this world.
May our ways of life be moments of healing touch for others. Amen.
