NOTHING TOO LITTLE.

HOMILY, MONDAY, 17TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Jeremiah 13:1-11, Matthew 13:31-35.

The first paragraph of our today’s gospel opens us to some facts:

  • A drop of water is a potential pool.
  • No effort we make in life is wasted.
  • Every step we make towards God goes with commensurate blessings.
  • The kingdom of God always starts with a humble beginning.

Our Saviour Jesus Christ did not start his earthly life from a glass house. He puts a parable before us,

the kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree.”

The ideas that will change the world can start with only one person. It may be dangerous to trivialize our little beginnings. Nothing should discourage us from gazing at our goals no matter how slow our pace may be. in God’s kingdom every effort counts.

PRAYER

O Lord my mighty helper. Keep in me your love. Pour your favour upon all my efforts. May nothing discourage me from working towards your purpose in my life. Thy kingdom come. Amen.
