LIFE OF PREPARATION

HOMILY OF THE SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR B

Isaiah 40:1-5.9-11, 2Peter 3:8-14, Mark 1:1-8

Life becomes meaningless if we have no value to live by. Everything is permissible in a world that has no regard for the sacred.

According to St Peter, in our second reading,
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burnt up.”

It means all the physical world with all its promises will fizzle away one day. The only thing that will remain will be the legacy of life we leave behind. Hence, we must lead our lives as project for eternal redemption.

Like John the baptist, we are called to prepare the way for the Lord. As we await the coming of God’s kingdom, let us dress up for action, let us put actions that match the gospel message so as to draw people to conversion.

May our lives be that of constant preparation for the coming of the Lord. Amen.
