Dear friends, as we approach the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Jesus’ prayer for us is a source of comfort and guidance. In His long prayer, three key words stand out:

  1. Keep: Jesus prays for the Father to keep us true to His name. Proverbs 18:10 reminds us that “the name of the Lord is a strong tower” where the righteous find safety. We are secured in Jesus’ name if we remain in Him and believe.
  2. World: Jesus acknowledges the world’s challenges and prays for protection from the evil one. He reminds us that we don’t belong to the world; let’s not get distracted by material things or make worldly pursuits our god.
  3. Consecrate: Jesus prays for the Father to consecrate us in truth. The Holy Spirit will enlighten and empower us. As we prepare for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, let’s ask ourselves: Are we disposed to receive the effects of Jesus’ prayer?

Jesus calls us to be courageous, knowing He is with us always, even to the end of the ages. Let us remain in Him, reject worldly distractions, and receive the consecration and power of the Holy Spirit.

Peace be with you!
