HOMILY OF THURSDAY IN THE 25TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Haggai 1:1-8, Luke 9:7-9

THEME: IRREPRESSIBLE WORK OF GOD

No one can put an end to the work of God. We must be careful lest we are drunk by our status and thereby fight a wrong target. We can live and let o others live. Though our ideology may differ, we mustn’t get rid of others to establish our own existence.

Herod must have thought that he had put an end to the era of audible voices with the beheading of John the Baptist.

However, hen Jesus appeared, he began to probe himself.

“Herod the tetrarch had heard about all that was being done by Jesus; and he was puzzled, because some people were saying that John had risen from the dead, others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life. But Herod said, ‘John? I beheaded him. So, who is this I hear such reports about?’ And he was anxious to see Jesus.”

We cannot attain peace when we derive joy in putting off the light of Others. No one should be a threat to our life or status. If we silence a voice, many voices will surely arise.

May we never be an obstacle to the truth of Christ and may we always be open to the work of God around us. Amen.
