We are in an era where people are obsessed with the acquisition of wealth without any regard to how such wealth is made; an era where people can fund their multiple bank accounts at the detriment of others, an era where people with great wealth attracts great respect and reverence even though the source of such wealth is through dubious means or the source is not validated
It is in such era that Jesus delivered his teaching concerning man’s quest for wealth as found in the gospel text of today. I quote; “Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and woodworms destroy them and thieves can break in and steal. But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworms destroy them, and thieves can not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also….”
From the citation above, it is inevitable to ask the question of the significance of such text in our in our immediate environment, that is, what message does it convey to us?
Jesus is not telling you not to do business, not to work, or not to have bank accounts. He is not telling you not to acquire properties. However, He is telling you to do your businesses and acquire wealth genuinely, and not to allow these treasures to occupy the position of God and his presence in your life, not to be blinded by it, thus, lacking the interest to assist others in need with the same assistance you got from God.
You should know that when you uplift someone in need, you make a deep impression in the heart of that person, and it last forever, and anytime that person remembers his story and how he was lifted up, he will remember you forever.
So, I encourage all who are blessed with wealth to invest in human development. In this way, you are equally storing your treasures where it can not be destroyed.
Peace be with you 🙏🏾🙌🏾
