HOMILY OF SATURDAY IN THE 20TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Ruth 2:1-3,8-11,4:13-1, Matthew 23:1-12
THEME: HOW WE ARE ENDORSED BY OUR CHARACTER
We can’t hide our character. It is like smoke, it spreads. The best recommendation we can get is the evidence of good character. Ruth dedication to her mother-in-law, Naomi, didn’t go unnoticed. This merited her marriage to Boaz. To her, Boaz said, “I have been told all you have done for your mother-in-law since your husband’s death, and how you left your own father and mother and the land where you were born to come among a people whom you knew nothing about before you came here.”
Success is a product of dedication. It may not come instantly, but with persistence and constancy.
Our integrity does not consist in what we say about ourselves or how we present ourselves to others. It is going to be seen in how we humbly live our lives. Jesus warned against the lifestyle of the scribes and pharisees who love public show of themselves. Their words outweigh their actions. The Lord said, “The greatest among you must be your servant. Anyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and anyone who humbles himself will be exalted.”
May our dedication to duties earn us a rightful place in the presence of God. Amen.
