HOMILY OF THURSDAY IN THE 21ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

1 Thessalonians 3:7-13, Matthew 24:42-51

THEME: HOW NOT TO BE LONELY AT THE TOP

We become lonely at the top only if we cannot connect well with those under us.  Proper collaboration and mutual understanding save us from unnecessary worries in the discharge of our leadership roles. When a leader focuses solely on what is on his mind and refuses to carry others along, he will become alienated with time. The joy of others should be our joy.

In the first reading of today, Paul heaved a sigh of relief having seen the responses of the Thessalonians.

“Brothers, your faith has been a great comfort to us in the middle of our own troubles and sorrows; now we can breathe again, as you are still holding firm in the Lord. How can we thank God enough for you, for all the joy we feel before our God on your account? We are earnestly praying night and day to be able to see you face to face again and make up any shortcomings in your faith.”

We are called to stay awake in the discharge of our duties, by taking good care of those  entrusted to us, with close but flexible supervision.

May the grace of God in us helps to sync with others and may others get to know Christ through our dedication. Amen.
