Go with nothing but Hope in Jesus

When Jesus sent out the twelve in today’s gospel reading it may strike us as strange that he told them to take nothing for the journey. I suspect that none of us would set out on a journey without taking with us what we think we need for the journey. Most of us feel the need to be prepared for every eventuality. We like to be independent, self-sufficient, and in control of our journey.

In the first reading, the author says: “… Give me neither poverty nor riches, grant me only my share of bread to eat, for fear that surrounded by plenty, I should fall away and say, ‘the Lord – who is the Lord?’ or else, in destitution, take to stealing and profane the name of my God.” Simply put, what is needed is the daily bread as in the prayer Jesus himself taught us.

Many times, we are bothered about so many things, and when we don’t get them, we can do many vices to get them no matter what it will cost us. However, Jesus wants us to learn today, that we should be dependent on Him. We should learn to trust God. The disciples trusted the master when he instructed them to go on the Journey with nothing. Let us have this Faith and hope in him that He can supply our needs according to his riches in glory. I would like to conclude with this song:
