Lord, What About Us?

1 Peter 1:10-16, Mark 10:28-31

Fr. Emmanuel Aghidi CSSp.

Friends, one of the things I admired so much about Peter is that he does not know how to hide his feelings. He may not have gotten it right all the time, but it also provided an opportunity for Jesus to teach him and the other disciples what truly matters. Today in the Gospel, Peter asked Jesus this beautiful question: what about us? We have left everything to follow you. This question is what many of us ask on a daily basis especially when we look at the event of things and see how people flaunt their wealth or success all around. But we have chosen a part that calls for faithfulness rather than success. So we also tend to ask sometimes.

The beautiful thing is that Jesus answers this question. He says "No one who left his mother, father, house and everything for my sake will not be repaid a hundred times."

He added another amazing clause. He said "not without persecution."

Persecution is the test and yet the strength of a Christian. Persecution shows that we do not conform to worldly principles to get wealthy or recognized. Thus, persecution is expected.

Peter tells us in the first reading that all what the Prophets prophesied about the good news was for us and not for them. He added, "free your mind from encumbrances." Friends, freeyour mind from worries. Jesus has the answer to all our questions. The good news is for you and I. We shall receive in hundred folds all we leave for Christ daily.

May the Lord bless His words in our hearts. Amen.
