Kept In The Name Of Jesus

Acts 20:28-38, John 17:11-19

Fr. Felix O. YAYI, C.S.Sp.

Beloved in Christ, I welcome you to this Wednesday’s reflection with the Spiritan Sound.

Today, we have a very touching Gospel text from John. Jesus keeps us in His name! In the Gospel, Jesus prays for His disciples whom He would soon be leaving. He was aware that they would be like lambs among wolves, and so He prayed that they might be kept in His name.

As Christians, we are called to live our lives as people who are kept in the name of Jesus. We should not live in conformity with the standards of this world because we do not belong to the world.

Our lasting and complete joy is found in Jesus, not in the fleeting pleasures or pretence of created things. As we anticipate the coming of the Holy Spirit, let us ask Him to purify our minds and hearts — to melt what is frozen, warm what is cold, and guide the steps that go astray.

Peace be with you!
