Acts 8:26-40, Psalm 65:8-9, 16-17,20, John 6:44-51
REV. FR. EKESHIRI JUDE EMEKA C.S.S.p
Our proximity to God is a call and Jesus reminds us that, this call is initiated by the father. The fathers love is poured upon us as a gift of the Holy spirit, which unite us to God In the gospel of today, we are reminded that, being a disciple of Christ means being drawn into the love of the Father. Jesus thus, tells us that, “no one can come to Him unless the Father draws them” (John 6:44-51).
However, the first reading clearly shows us an evidence of those that were drawn by God into His love, Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch. God made their paths to cross each other, so that He will reveal Himself to the Ethiopian eunuch. In the story of the Ethiopian eunuch, we see how the Scriptures reveal God’s love and lead him to faith.
Just as the eunuch eagerly accepts the message, we too are invited to embrace God’s love. Nevertheless, it is not easy to accept His teachings and to experience the depth of His love. It is a choice for us to open our hearts to this love. The psalmist praises God for not rejecting him, recognizing the grace of being drawn to God’s presence. Like the eunuch, we are called to respond to God’s love, allowing it to transform our lives and guide us on our journey of faith. Peace be with you
