Recognising the Resurrected Jesus in One Another

1st reading: Acts 4:1-12 Responsorial: Psalm 117:1-2,4,22-27 Gospel: John 21: 1-14

Homily of the friday after Easter. 10th April, 2026.

By Rev. Fr. Achilleus Ile Adole CSSp

Within eight days after his resurrection, Jesus continued to reveal himself to his disciples one after another and in different ways. Yesterday, he revealed himself to two disciples on the way to Emaus in the breaking of the bread, but today, he revealed himself to the some of the disciples including Peter at the sea of Tiberias.

The revelation of the risen Christ in the gospel of today took place while the disciples were at their work place in the sea and fishing for they were fishermen. This tells us that Christ can reveal himself to us anytime, anywhere, and anyhow he wants. And so, like Peter, we must be ready to run to meet him.

In the case of the Apostles, after the resurrection of Christ, they were looking out to see him before they believed just like Thomas. But in our case, all we need to do is to open the eyes of our hearts and recognise the resurrected Jesus in our brothers and sisters and all others around us. Jesus is very close to us, we do not look for him in far away places. We can find him amongst family members and friends, we can see him in our neighbours, we can see him in our work places too, we can see him in our work partners, we can see him amongst members of our communities. Again, the resurrected Jesus can reveal himself to us at anytime, anywhere, and anyhow. We must be ready to welcome him at all times.

Peace be with you
