GOODBYE GOOD PEOPLE, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

32

HOMILY OF MONDAY OF THE 9TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

Saint Boniface, Bishop, Martyr.

Saint Boniface, a renowned Bishop, and Martyr dedicated his life to spreading Christianity throughout Europe. Born in the 7th century, he fearlessly confronted paganism, establishing monasteries, and preaching the Gospel. His ultimate sacrifice for his faith solidified his legacy as a revered patron saint of Germany.

Tobit 1:3,2:1-8, Mark 12:1-12

THEME: GOODBYE GOOD PEOPLE

The world has a way of saying goodbye to good people. When we do good and expect the world to compensate us, we risk frustration. It takes God to repay the good we do. He uses those who open their hearts to him to reward each one according to his good pleasure.

In the first reading Tobit narrated how he was despised for his good deeds.

In the gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the wicked tenants who treated with wickedness, the servants of the owner of the vineyard. This simply depicts the attitudes of the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders towards God’s mission of love through Jesus Christ. They rejected salvation to retain the fleeting relevance of their office.

Like St Boniface who died defending his faith in Christ, let us see every rejection we suffer on account of truth as our participation in the suffering of Christ.

Man’s award is limited and for the moment, but God’s reward is infinite and eternal.

May all we do, be done to the greater glory of God. Amen.
