HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY IN THE 15TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Exodus 3:1-6,9-12, Matthew 11:25-27

THEME: GOD WORKING IN US.

Faith takes over when our reason can no longer go further. There are greater things beyond the “why” questions we often ask.

In the first reading of today, “Moses looked; there was the bush blazing, but it was not being burnt up. ‘I must go and look at this strange sight,’ Moses said, ‘and see why the bush is not burnt.”

Beyond his “why” lies a great call that his limited self cannot handle. When God called him and sent him to liberate the Israelites from Egypt, he said to God, “Who am I to go to Pharaoh and bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?’ ‘I shall be with you,’ was the answer ‘and this is the sign by which you shall know that it is I who have sent you… After you have led the people out of Egypt, you are to offer worship to God on this mountain.”

Our strength and wisdom without God’s assent and unction amount to nothing.  Those who submit to God in simplicity, he will show the path that leads to the eternal source of life.

Jesus prayed to his Father, “‘I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children.”

Hence, when we submit to God in simplicity, when we give him our heart, he empowers us to do great things, because he is the one who works in us to will and to do.

May we always cooperate with God’s grace. Amen.
