Every grateful heart has a testimony of God’s goodness. When we forget our past, we risk erasing God’s hand from our story. In moments of comfort, we may easily overlook the times he rescued us from danger and provides for our needs. But as we journey through memory lane, we cannot deny that God has always been near-though we often credit our success to personal effort rather than his grace.
In Deuteronomy 26:4-10, the Israelites recounted how God delivered them from slavery, how he guided their ancestors, and preserved their generations. This declaration of faith was made in gratitude before the Lord as they offered their first fruits in thanksgiving.
They were meant to say, “And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great deeds of terror, with signs and wonders. And he brought us into this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. And behold, now I bring the first of the fruit of the ground, which you, O LORD, have given me.”
Their act of worship was effortless because they recognised the true source of their blessings. However, when we fail to remain steadfast in our loyalty to God and seek solutions everywhere except in him, we risk losing our sense of gratitude. Spiritual unfaithfulness will surely lead to confusion. Turning to false gods may offer temporary relief but never true salvation, only an endless search for meaning. But when we fix our hearts on God, regardless of the speed of our progress, we will experience true peace and lasting joy.
In all, we must believe in God and confess his Son or Lord Jesus Christ. “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” [Ref. Roman 10:8-13]
True testimony is not just about God’s provision and protection but, above all, the salvation he grants our souls. It goes beyond material blessings—it is about his life within us, working in us to will and to act according to his purpose.
Furthermore, our knowledge of God and our daily walk with him build a track record of faith. These testimonies of his presence in our lives become powerful weapons against Satan’s temptations. In Luke 4:1-13, Jesus countered the devil’s attacks with Scripture, and the enemy retreated.
Likewise, no matter the challenges we face, when we fix our hearts on God and follow his ways, we will remain steadfast, unmoved by any form of distractions.
May our testimonies pass the test of God’s word and may we never forget all his goodness in our lives. Amen.
