HOMILY OF MONDAY IN THE 23RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Colossians 1:24-2:3, Luke 6:6-11

THEME:

ETHICAL DILEMMAS AND MORAL CHOICES

Only God has the absolute power to deliver us from the grip of those who lay ambushes for us. When adversaries are determined to undermine us, even our virtuous actions can become tools in their hands.

In today’s gospel, “On the sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees were watching him to see if he would cure a man on the sabbath, hoping to find something to use against him.”

Hence, when truth becomes what we say it is as long as it serves our purpose, we can never be cured of our prejudice or dangerous conception about life. Even when Jesus asked the scribes and pharisees, “is it against the law on the sabbath to do good, or to do evil; to save life, or to destroy it?” They said nothing, and he went ahead to cure the man. But they were furious and began to discuss the best way of dealing with him.

The moral choice of Jesus confronted their personal biases and evil agenda.

May no religious spirit stunt our passion for the good and may no evil plot against us succeed in Jesus name. Amen.
