HOMILY OF WEDNESDAY IN THE 20TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A
Judges 9:6-15, Matthew 20:1-16
THEME: EQUAL LOVE OF GOD
Divine timing can explain our circumstances; for each, God allocates time. The present favor shouldn’t breed superiority in our eyes, as we bask in his kindness. Certain individuals are idle not due to laziness or lack of employability, but rather due to restricted access to employment opportunities.
In today’s gospel, the landowner paid all his workers the same wages, though they were employed at different time of the day. And those who came earlier were complaining. And to them he said, “My friend, I am not being unjust to you; did we not agree on one denarius? Take your earnings and go. I choose to pay the last comer as much as I pay you. Have I no right to do what I like with my own? Why be envious because I am generous?” Thus the last will be first, and the first, last.”
Let us face our business and be grateful for what the Lord has done for us. God loves each of us equally, though our status may not be the same.
May God remember us at our own time. Amen.
