The Scriptural narrative of the story of Moses and Pharoah is a story with so many lessons. God, starting from the Burning bush, showed his sovereignty over heaven and earth.
Sometimes, God tries to strong-arm or strong-mind our enemies or our persecutors so that he can show his supremacy. The first reading of today shows God’s power again in delivering his people the Isrealites.
God’s ways are not our ways at all. For this very reason the Isrealites could not understand the wonders of God that is why they questioned Moses and criticized when they felt that God and Moses have failed by allowing them to die in the Sea, but God still showed his powers by dividing the Sea and providing a dry land for them to work on. In life, there are stages we may not understand the hand writings in the wall. There are times we may feel like going back to our previous lives or ways because we do feel that the new way has no fruithful end because of tribulations and obstacles. But unlike the Isrealites let us fix our faith in God, though it may be challenging, but let us have that strong will that he who started leading us into this new life will bring us to a completion.
We are in a generation filled with signs and wonders and still many people still refused to believe in the truth. Christ in today’s Gospel tries to relate or teach the Scribes and Pharisees that they have enough signs to believe in the truth. Taking them back to the time of Jonah and Solomon, he explained to them that is not just about signs but the willingness and conviction to believe in the Truth; that if it is about signs that the greatest sign ever is here which is him (Christ).
This message stretches well to the world of today. There are many Churches, signs, wonders and what have you but still people have not repented and believed in the truth. Our willingness and conviction to believe in the truth is what counts with or without signs. At the last day, the privileges and opportunities provided to us will be used as a yard stick to judge us all.
PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL
