DIVINE INVESTMENT, By Fr Oluwafemi Victor Orilua CSSp

98

HOMILY OF SATURDAY OF THE 9TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Tobit 12:1,5-15,20, Mark 12:38-44

THEME: DIVINE INVESTMENT

The good we do for others are part of our personal investment. God has ways of repaying those who give helping hands without any thought of recompense.  When we complain that we are not appreciated for the good we do, we should examine our conscience carefully. We must have done them for our own selfish reason. Either for fame or to gain relevance or to earn good name.

St Raphael, while disclosing his identity to Tobit and his household, implored them to continue doing good. Doing this saves from evil and attract God’s blessings. After all their suffering, God sent his angel to rescue them from their pitiable situations.

Hence, in the good we do, we must do them with the right conduct, put God first, and not to impress others.

In the gospel, Jesus praised the widow who put in the treasury, her last penny. She made a painful offering and not a cut from her abundance.

Therefore, the good we do for God today may be painful, if we do not loose faith in him, he will grant us his blessings. However, our reward may not come in human terms, there is a kind of joy and peace we get from serving God, that no amount of money or wealth can buy.

Let’s pray that all we do may be sown for an eternal harvest. Amen.
