HOMILY, SATURDAY, 10TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

MEMORIAL, ST ANTHONY OF PADUA

[Anthony of Padua, [1195-1231], came from Portugal. he was a Franciscan, who preached throughout France and Northern Italy. He later settled in Padua where he carried out the ministry of teaching and healing. He died at the age of thirty-six.]

1Kings 19:19-21, Matthew 5:33-37

THEME: YES OR NO

We must not allow sentiments or a moment of excitement to lead us into making promises that we cannot fulfil. Many people today are suffering because of the commitments they have made. Herod was sad when Herodias daughter requested for the head of John the Baptist. He had to comply because of the promise he had made her. Mathew 14.

The Lord said in today’s gospel, “Do not swear at all…. let what you say be simply ‘yes or No; anything more than this comes from the evil one” Matthew 33:5:37

Do all you can do. Strive to be the best. God knows your strength. Accept that you are human. You cannot impress God. You can survive only by his grace. Don’t do what God did not command.

PRAYER

I Love you Lord. And I know that you know me through and through. You know my going and coming. You know my strength. Kindly help that I may not falter in following your steps. Grant me all it takes to do my best in following your ways. Thy kingdom come. Amen.
