COURAGE TO STAND AMIDST CRITICS

107

HOMILY OF FRIDAY OF THE SECOND OF ADVENT YEAR B

Isaiah 48:17-19, Matthew 11:16-19

The most difficult person to wake from sleep is he who is pretending to be asleep.

Those who have not learn the art of listening will always find it difficult to obey. We cannot satisfy those who see things only from their own perspectives.

In today’s gospel, Jesus compared the crowd to children sitting in market places, and calling to their playmates, “we pipe to you and did not dance, we wail, and you did not mourn.” For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say! He has a demon. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they behold a glutton, and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.”

There is nothing we can do satisfy those who have chosen to seal their minds against the truth. Instead of trying to bend to will of malicious critics, it is better to stand alone on the path of justice and right.

The Lord said, “wisdom is justified by her deeds.”

Let us be constant on the path that leads to life. Let us shun all that may seduce us into error.

May the Lord increase our courage that we may always toe the part that leads to life. Amen.
