HOMILY OF CHRIST THE KING OF THE UNIVERSE

Readings: 2 Samuel, 5:1-3, Col 1:12-20, Luke 23:35-43

THEME: CHRIST THE ETERNAL KING

One of the criminals on the cross said to Jesus, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingly power.”

And Jesus replied, “Truly, i say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.

The request of the criminal is a firm belief in the resurrection. Making such request to someone who is almost dying may make no meaning to those who have settled for the earthly kingdom, those who amassed wealth and cement relationship as if they will live on earth forever.

The greatest privilege we can get in life is seeing God before we see death. This thief was blessed with the grace of a happy death. He accepted his guilt and obtain eternal favour to be with Christ in paradise.

It is not enough professing the resurrection. We must concretely demonstrate our faith in it by our life style. Let’s live like people who believe in the life beyond the physical.

Like the repentant thief, may the Lord grant us a special place in his kingdom. Amen
