Homily of Wednesday, 31st December 2025,
Seventh Day within the Octave of Christmas
Ref: 1 John 2:18-21, John 1:1-18
By: Fr Felix Olátúnjí Yayi, C.S.Sp.
Dear friends in Christ, like St. John in the first reading, I’ll say, “Children, it is the last hour.”
We thank the almighty God who has given us this opportunity to wrap up another year; may His name be praised both now and forevermore.
We have behind us days and months filled with joys and pains, and before us, days and months we anticipate will be better. John, in the Gospel text, reminds us that our belief in the incarnation of Christ brings about light on our path, the opportunity to be called sons and daughters of God, and the revelation of God. As we anticipate this new year, we are encouraged to continue to believe in the mystery of God made man for us. Let us hold fast to our belief in the light of Christ so that it may illuminate our paths in 2026. Let us hold fast to this mystery so that it may dispel the darkness of 2026 and shed its light on our way.
Let us act accordingly so that we may from His fullness receive grace upon grace to navigate the new year, for grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
We pray that through God’s grace, we may walk in light always through the days of 2026. Amen.
Shalom.
