HOMILY OF MONDAY OF THE 7TH WEEK OF EASTER

Acts 19:1-8, John 16:29-33

THEME:  A NEW EXPERIENCE IN THE SPIRIT.

The Spirit works in us to will and to do. It helps us to do the needful as God’s children. The power of the Holy Spirit helps us to exercise our office as sons and daughters of God.

Our completeness or fulfilment is attained when we enjoy both the indwelling and the infilling of the Holy Spirit, when our fragility, clothed with meekness, is complemented with an unction to stand bravely as God’s representatives.

Paul baptized and laid hands on the disciples he met in Ephesus when he realized that they only knew the baptism of John. Their experience was spectacular.

“And the moment Paul had laid hands on them the Holy Spirit came down on them, and they began to speak with tongues and to prophesy. There were about twelve of these men.”

The Holy Spirit gives us the courage to face the challenges of our mission in life. The Lord Jesus said, in today’s gospel. “In the world you will have trouble but be brave: I have conquered the world.”

Let us desire the power of the Spirit that  we may make more effective use of our knowledge of God.

As we expect the fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, may his anointing fall upon us and leader lead us into a fuller knowledge of God. Amen.
