HOMILY OF THURSDAY IN THE 22ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Colossians 1:9-14, Luke 5:1-11

THEME: WHEN JESUS STEPS IN

There is no amount of preparation we make, if God does not put his stamp on our labour, we cannot make headway.

However, since we do not know the time of God’s special visit, it is good that we dispose ourselves to receive him any moment he needs us for his service. We must not give up our good will simply because of our life struggles or frustrations.

Even though Peter and his companions had laboured all day without catching a fish, he did not hesitate to lend Jesus his boat, for his ministry of preaching. Interestingly, this singular gesture earned them a great catch of fish.

The Lord Jesus told Peter, “Put out into deep water and pay out your nets for a catch.’ ‘Master,’ Simon replied, ‘we worked hard all night long and caught nothing, but if you say so, I will pay out the nets.’ And when they had done this, they netted such a huge number of fish that their nets began to tear, so they signalled to their companions in the other boat to come and help them.”

As we keep maintaining our poise amidst our daily ups and down, may we receive divine visitation for bountiful harvest. Amen.
