HOMILY OF SATURDAY IN THE 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Saints Martha, Mary and Lazarus

Exodus 24:3-8, John 11:19-27

THEME: BEING FRIENDS OF JESUS

Today we celebrate the memorial of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. These were three siblings who gave Jesus a special space in their home. To them, Jesus declared himself,

“I am the resurrection and the life. If anyone believes in me, even though he dies he will live, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”

The Lord Jesus assured them of his power to give life, which he did by raising Lazarus to life.

God loves all, but he manifests himself more to those who create special space for him in their hearts. It is not a game of partiality, but a function of recognition.

May the Lord never desert us as we place our trust in him. Amen.
