HOMILY OF TUESDAY IN THE 15TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

Exodus 2:1-15, Matthew 11:20-24

THEME: WHEN GOD PRESERVES OUR LIFE

If God has deigned to spare us, no creature on earth can kill us. If God has given us a name, no one created can tarnish our image. Trials may emerge, temptations may entice, yet God safeguards his sacred name from defilement. His divine will prevails unconditionally.

We read in today’s first reading how Pharaoh menaced Israel’s existence; he ordered the killing of Israel’s son at birth, but God raised and prepared Moses, a Hebrew under his own care.

Our existence is always a threat to the ruler of this world. Being alive today is a special gift from God for which we must thank him all the time with our lips and by our lives. God’s greatness and wonders in our lives must not be ignored.

In todays’ gospel, “Jesus began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because they refused to repent. ‘Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.”

May our lives be that of continuous thanksgiving to God. may we never take his greatness for granted.
